A frightful reminder of Nazi German persecution of the Jews, a Torah likely stolen on "Kristallnacht" (November 9-10, 1938) and fashioned into a billfold by its proud German owner. The vellum relic measures 10" x 7" opened, and either side has been folded over and hand-stitched with period green ribbon to create interior pockets to hold cards, money, etc. The owner, one "Erich Dorner" of Mainz added his name in black ink within. A scholar advises that this segment of the Torah is from "Chayee Sara" ("Life of Sara", from Genesis), Chapter 24, Verse 2. From the large and well-known collection of an American military intelligence officer, and untouched for over thirty years. Guaranteed of period construction and authentic in every respect.
