Printed flyer, 1p. 8vo., Amsterdam, July 14, 1942 an extra edition of "Het Joodsche Weekblad" ("The Jewish Weekly"), a newspaper produced for the Jewish community in that city. The flyer bears a terse announcement, in full: "The Sicherheitspolizei informs us of the following: About 700 Jews have been arrested in Amsterdam today. If this week the 4,000 designated Jews do not leave for the labor camps in Germany, the 700 detainees will be transferred to a concentration camp in Germany." The announcement is signed in type at the conclusion by Abraham Asscher and Prof. David Cohen, publishers of the paper and heads of the Jewish Council in Amsterdam. Shows mild toning to the edges, else very good. Interestingly, the requisition for 4,000 Jewish laborers mentioned here was the catalyst that forced Anne Frank and her family into hiding, after her sister Margot was called up by the Central Office for Jewish Emigration.
