An interesting piece of Holocaust ephemera, a T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Tilburg, Oct. 22, 1941, from the Tilburg department of the Jewish Council for Amsterdam, relating several anti-Semitic regulations imposed under German occupation, in part: "Regarding the latest regulations, information has shown that moving within the municipalities without a permit to move is also prohibited. Also, the visit of tub and shower facilities (municipal bath facilities) for persons of Jewish blood is forbidden. In response to questions addressed to us regarding the education of Jewish children, we inform you that all music and gymnastics lessons given by non-Jews are also prohibited. Adult education is only permitted by Jews to Jews in a classroom context..." The letter goes on to request assistance and donations to establish a free library for Jews in Amsterdam, as those libraries currently in existence have been declared out-of-bounds to them. A representative of the council signs at the conclusion in pencil. Shows original mailing folds, else fine.
