(1867 – 1955) American major general who commanded the 1st Infantry Division in World War I, was Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1926 and 1930. Fine association T.L.S., 1p. 4to., “Headquarters Fifth Army Corps” [France], Feb. 18, 1919 to CLARENCE R. HUEBNER (1888-1972), American major general who commanded the 1st Infantry Division in its assault on Omaha Beach, in the drive across France, at the Hurtgen Forest and in the battle of Aachen. In part: “…I beg you will accept the enclosed photograph as a souvenir of the days when it was our privilege to serve together in the First Division…” Toned at bottom margin, else very good. WITH an 8” x 10” photo found with the letter showing Huebner and other soldiers ca. 1910, each numbered but the key not present.
