(1872 - 1960) American major general who brilliantly led the 23rd Regiment in the Battle of Soissons, later heading the 10th Infantry Brigade in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Great association T.L.S. as commander of the 2nd Infantry Div., 1p. 4to., Fort Sam Houston, June 26, 1925 to CLARENCE R. HUEBNER (1888-1972), American major general who would command the 1st Infantry Division in its assault on Omaha Beach, in the drive across France, at the Hurtgen Forest and in the battle of Aachen. In part: “…Please accept my heart congratulations on your classification as an honor graduate of the Command and General Staff School…[I] know that none make the grade without having the ‘stuff’…” Very good. Huebner has served under Malone during World War I.
