(1875 - 1953) German field marshal who led the blitzkrieg attack on France, seizing the country within two weeks, defeated by Allied forces in Normandy and in the desperate Battle of the Bulge. Interesting typed D.S. on International Red Cross letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Hamburg, Nov. 9, 1948, confirming his receipt of 200 cigarettes through the Red Cross. He signs at the conclusion in blue ink, adding the ironic title (given his status as a POW) of "Lagerfuhere" ("camp commander"). Shows mailing folds, else very good.
