(1891 - 1944) German field marshal whose Afrika Corps threw back repeated British and American assaults in North Africa, later he defended Normandy and ultimately was forced to commit suicide due to his implication in the Hitler bomb plot. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. large 4to., [n.p.], Dec. 31, 1940, the award of an Assault Badge to an obergefreiter who had served in a flak unit under his command. Signed in pencil at bottom as was his custom. Folds, else very good. Rommel had finished his brilliant campaigns in the Low Countries and in France, and in a few months would take command of the Afrika Korps.
