(1847 - 1934) German general and politician, crushed the Russians at Tannenburg and in Poland, forced to yield the Chancellor's office to Hitler in 1933. T.L.S. as Reichspresident on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Oct. 1, 1929 to Generalleutnant Joachim von Stulponagel advising his old comrade in arms that he has been promoted to the rank of lieutenanr general. File holes, else fine. JOACHIM VON STULPNAGEL (1880-1968) was a German infantry general, and until 1932 commanded 3. Division and later Wehrkreis III, Berlin. He then was involved in publishing the “Berliner Börsenzeitung“. After the July 20 plot, he was arrested as a “politisch unzuverlässig“ ("politically untrustworthy") and imprisoned in a KZ.
