(1892 - 1972) Co-creator with Goering of the Nazi's Luftwaffe, promoted to the rank of field marshal, later tried at Nuremberg and imprisoned until 1954. Important typed war-date D.S. "Milch Generalfeldmarshall", 1p. large 4to., Berlin, July 31, 1944. Milch writes under his title as "Generalinspekteur der Luftwaffe", in part: "...The Reichsmarshall [Hermann Goring] ordered on the 20.6.44 that the arming of the Luftwaffe should be carried our by the Reichminister for Defense and War Production...SPEER has asked the Reichsmarshall to make me available to him...while at the same time I remain General Inspector of the Luftwaffe. SPEER has appointed me as its Minister for Armaments and War Production and Plenipotentiary for Armaments and the Four-Year Plan...I express my gratitude to all members of the Reich Ministry of Aviation...with the best wishes for their future work..." Lightly toned, file holes in left margin, else very good with a bold signature at bottom. After March 1944, Milch and Speer together oversaw the activities of the Jägerstab ("Fighter Staff"), a governmental task force whose aim was to increase the production of fighter aircraft, in part by moving the production facilities underground. In cooperation with the SS, the task force played a key role in the exploitation of slave labor for the benefit of the German aircraft industry and the Luftwaffe.
