(1888 - 1967) German historian, a nationalist-conservative who initially supported the NSDAP but following the Kristallnacht pogrom, turned away from National Socialism and eventually joined the July 20 bomb plot with his friend, Carl Goerdeler. Pair of signed items includes: T.L.S. on his professional letterhead, 1p. 4to., Freiburg, May 22, 1959 in German to a researcher. Ritter gives the addresses of NSDAP mayor of Stuttgart Karl Strohlin and OSS resistance plant Hans Gisevius, and refers the man to his book on Goerdeler; with a 3.5 x 5.5 in. portrait photo signed on verso. Two pieces, fine.
