A superb MacArthur item, a signed excerpt from the general’s historic farewell address delivered before both houses of Congress on April 19, 1951, given only a week after MacArthur was sacked by Truman as commander of UN forces in Korea. The speech is of cours known for MacArthur’s immortal quotation: “Old soldiers never die; they just fade away. And like the old soldier of that ballad, I now close my military service and just fade away – and old soldier who had tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty. Goodbye…” Boldly signed in black ink by MacArthur just beneath the title. Light mat burn at extreme margins, else fine condition.
