(1920 - 2007) U.S. Marine who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. flags on the summit during the battle of Iwo Jima. Excellent pair of signed items, includes: fine content T.L.S. 1p. 8vo., [n.p., n.d. but late in life], in part: "...You asked about living conditions and eating on Iwo Jima, we slept in foxholes and ate rations. Weather was fairly good - it rained the nite before we went up the mountain on the 23rd. The equipment I carried was a pistol and 3 hand grenades and my pack and a knife...Semper Fi..."; with an S.P., 8" x 10" b/w, shows (presumably) Lindberg and two other Marines tying an American flag to a length of steel pipe which served as the flag pole in Joe Rosenthal's iconic photograph. Lindberg boldly signs the image adding: "1st Flag Raiser, Iwo Jima Feb. 23, 1945, 10:30 A.M." Both pieces in fine condition.
