Black Leather M1874 "McKeever" cartridge box, approx. 7" x 4", as used by U.S. soldiers during the Indian Wars of the latter half of the nineteenth century. The front cover bears the embossed oval emblem "U S" while the reverse of the securing tab is marked "Watervliet Arsenal" for its place of manufacture. The front cover is secured on a brass hinge, and the interior is fitted with twenty canvas belt loops to secure rounds of .45-70 ammunition as used in the M1873 "trapdoor" Springfield rifle. Shows some cracks and slight flaking to the front cover, with slight verdigris to the brass fittings, else very good.
