Rather harrowing war-date A.L.S. in pencil, 2pp. 8vo., Newport News, June 6, 1862, from Eldridge Franklin of the 5th Michigan Volunteer Infantry, Company "C", to his parents. Franklin describes wounds he received at the Battle of Seven Pines, in part: "...I have a severe wound through my left thigh pretty high up close to my body. I was wounded late in the AM of the 31st. I am helpless [&] can neither sit up or turn on my side. I have been so since 2 hours after I was wounded. My wound is doing finely the bone is not injured much if any... I am not able to write anything about the battle. The 5th boys faught [sic] like tigers & we lost a great many..." He signs at the conclusion. Shows original folds, with the transmittal envelope present. Very good.
