(1786 - 1844) American financier, as president of the Bank of the United States he followed a policy of a stable money supply with restricted credit. Partly-printed D.S. "N. Biddle", 1p. oblong 8vo. (sight), Philadelphia, Oct. 2, 1837, a promissory note issued by the Second Bank of the United States, redeemable for one thousand pounds' sterling. Biddle signs at bottom right in black ink. Canceled vertically in black ink at center, with a punch cancel at lower left, matted in red and cream and mounted in a black and gilt frame, very good.
