(1721 - 1793) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Association, Articles of Confederation (which he helped draft), and the Constitution, the only person to sign all four documents. Partly-printed document completely filled-in by Sherman and signed in full on front and back as Justice of the Peace, 2pp. 6 1/4" x 5 1/4", New Milford, Sep. 22, 1755. Sherman orders the Sheriff of Litchfield to attach one hundred pounds of currency or goods belonging to Eaton Jones of Litchfield, or lacking same, to arrest and hold the man for his failure to pay a fifty pound debt. Signed by Sherman at bottom, with an additional signed note on verso. An early collector's notation appears on verso, not substantially detracting from the piece which is otherwise fine.
