(1881-1940) U.S. Marine Corps major general, the most decorated Marine in U.S. history at the time of his death. Post-retirement, he became an outspoken critic of U.S. military intervention and exposed the "Business Plot", which sought to overthrow the government of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 12mo., West Chester, March 21, 1939, a check issued by the First National Bank of West Chester, paying fifty dollars to "The Blackstones". Butler signs at bottom right in black ink, and endorses the check again on the verso.
