Lot of four items signed by multiple members of 509th Composite Group, 393rd Bombardment Squadron Crews A-4, A-5, and B-6. Their aircraft were refitted to Silverplate configuration becoming atomic bomb capable and the crews were deployed to Tinian in late May 1945 in preparation for anticipated atomic bombing raids on Japan, including Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Included is: CREW A-4 "STRANGE CARGO", Nose art photo 5 x 7 in. signed by Airplane Commander JOSEPH WESTOVER, Pilot WILLIAM DESMOND, Navigator JOHN DULIN, Asst. Eng. SAMUEL WHEELER and Drop Specialist CLEO HARTER; CREW A-5 "BIG STINK", two 5 x 7 in. photos of the aircraft, one signed by Co-Pilot WILLIAM M. ROWE, Tail Gunner ALFRED LEWANDOWSKI, and Aircraft Commander THOMAS CLASSEN, the second photo signed by Aircraft Commander ELBERT SMITH, Co-Pilot WILLIAM ROWE, and Tail Gunner ALFRED LEWANDOWSKI; and CREW B-6 "JABIT III" (weather recon, Kokura, Aug. 6), crew photo 5 x 7 in., signed by Co-Pilot ELLSWORTH T.
