Lot of seven items signed by multiple members of 509th Composite Group, 393rd Bombardment Squadron Crews C-11, C-12 and C-14. Their aircraft were refitted to Silverplate configuration becoming atomic bomb capable and the crews were deployed to Tinian in late May 1945 in preparation for anticipated atomic bombing raids on Japan, including Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Included is: CREW C-11 "STRAIGHT FLUSH" (Weather recon, Hiroshima, Aug. 6), Nose art photo 5 x 7 in. signed by Pilot IRA WEATHERLY and Pilot W. LOCKE EASTON (of "NEXT OBJECTIVE"), CREW C-12 "LUKE THE SPOOK", Nose art photo 5 x 7 in. signed by Aircraft Commander HERMAN ZAHN, Pilot GILBERT DICKMAN, Engineer JAMES ELDER, Tail Gunner RAY ALLEN, and ground crew members MILTON SPROUSE and FRANCIS PELLEGRINI; and CREW C-14 "NECESSARY EVIL" (Cameras at Nagasaki, Aug. 9), two nose art photos, each 5 x 7 in., signed by Navigator STANLEY STEINKE, Flight Engineer GEORGE BRABANEC (twice), Radar Operator RICHARD CANNON (twice), and Engine Specialist PAUL SCHOFHAUSER (twice); a 5 x 7 in. candid crew photo signed by RICHARD CANNON, PAUL SCHOFHAUSER, and Ground Crew Member TROY SCOTT; a 5 x 7 in. nose art photo signed by RICHARD CANNON; and a 5 x 7 in. image of RICHARD CANNON at his radar set, signed by him at bottom. With records for each aircraft. Seven pieces, fine condition.
