Project Alberta, also known as Project A, was a section of the Manhattan Project which assisted in delivering the first nuclear weapons to be used in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Its mission was to design a bomb shape for delivery by air, modify B-29s to carry the bombs (Project Silverplate), and prepare facilities, assemble, and load the weapons upon the aircraft at Tinian. Excellent items signed by members of PROJECT ALBERTA, 1p. 4to., a copy of the Aug. 8, 1945 message to "All Members of the Laboratory" from J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER relaying a message from Under-Secretary of War Robert Patterson about the atomic bomb: "...the warlords of Japan now know its effects than we ourselves..." Signed by MORRIS JEPPSON, test officer who also flew on Enola Gay; WALTER GOODMAN, an observer on The Great Artiste; FREDERICK ASHWORTH, Operations Officer with ALBERTA and weaponeer on Bocks Car, JOHN L. TUCKER, X-Unit Section, ALBERTA, DONALD MASTICK, Operations Officer, and FREDERICK ZIMMERLI, Fusing Group, ALBERTA. Fine.
