(1757 - 1834) French statesman and military officer who served as a major general under Washington and was instrumental in the defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Manuscript L.S. "Lafayette" with holograph postscript, 1p. 8vo., La Grange, Dec. 2, 1828, in French. In part: "...I am eager to send you, sir, some letters for your brother...I wish that they may be useful to Mr. Henry Marquelet, and please accept the assurance of my distinguished consideration..." He adds in the postscript: "Do you want to transmit this letter to my friend, Mr. de la Chappelle..." A few dockets, else very good.
