Description:

NGUYEN HUY ANH (1934-1972) Major General of the Air Force of the Republic of Vietnam. Anh initially served as commander of the 62nd Tactical Squadron stationed at Nha Trang Airport. In early 1970, he was appointed to command the newly created 4th Air Force Division in Binh Thuy, Can Tho. On November 1, 1971, he was promoted to brigadier general. He was killed in a helicopter crash on April 7, 1972 and promoted major general posthumously. A very rare mid-1960's A.R.V.N. utility shirt style uniform jacket once belonging to Anh. This is a South Vietnamese produced specimen, with no factory or tailor's tags present nor are there any inked-in manufacturer's marks of any kind, thus almost certainly a custom tailored piece. Sewn to each lapel are the two small brigadier general's stars, direct embroidered on patches machine sewn to the lapels. Underneath the collar is the proper wrinkling found under each patch attesting to their being sewn there through many washings. On the right breast is an olive green name tape, also with the desired wrinkling, bearing the name 'ANH' embroidered in black. Above there is a similarly fabricated Master Parachutist patch with two gold embroidered stars. This may be for a
Vietnamese Master or Senior Parachutist. The left sleeve bears a Vietnam production patch from the 10th Infantry Division; its significance is unknown. He may have worn the patch in remembrance of very early service in the division which was organized by the French in the early 1950s. The interior of the jacket shows no ghost sewing marks from any other insignia ever having been removed. The unmarked trousers match the uniform in material and construction. There are two side pockets that match the uniform's pocket style. Their size matches that of the uniform. Both pieces show cleaning and ironing marks on each. From a major private collection on public display.
