Good collection of photographs, documents and medals related to the service of Wehrmacht Oberleutnant Josef Cuypers of " 8./Infanterie Regiment 18", includes: a photo album and scrapbook, 58pp. 4to., containing 169 b/w photos, including numerous prewar commercial views of European tourist sights and NSDAP figures, but also including numerous first- and second-generation portraits of Cuypers, his family and his fellow soldiers, images of his regiment in training, views of combat and ruined cities in France and Russia, and more. The album also contains numerous documents and award certificates, including: partly-printed D.S., 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Dec. 20, 1941, granting Cuypers the Iron Cross, First Class, signed at the conclusion in black ink by the commanding general of the division; partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Dec. 8, 1941, granting Cuypers the Infantry Assault Badge, signed at the conclusion in black ink by the colonel commanding the regiment; partly-printed D.S., 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Oct. 23, 1941, granting Cuypers the Wound Badge in Black, signed at the conclusion in black ink by a captain and battalion commander; partly-printed D.S., 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Aug. 25, 1942, granting Cuypers the Eastern Front Medal, signed in black ink at the conclusion by a major; and a partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Jan 23, 1943, Cuyper's "Hero's Death" certificate. The Iron Cross, Infantry Assault Badge, Wound Badge, and Eastern Front Medal described above are all also present. The album is rounded out by Cuypers' death cards, funeral announcements, and several typed copies of letters from his comrades to his family, describing the circumstances of his death. Photos have been removed from the first 24 pages, while the documents show folds, else very good. Should be seen.
