Description:

Good pair of documents related to members of the Simon family, German Jews living in the town of Rastatt, includes: Partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., "Rosbach", Dec. 27, 1938, a form confirming the addition of the middle name "Israel" to Siegfried Simon, as required by the "The Executive Order on the Law on the Alteration of Family and Personal Names" of August 17, 1938. This law forced all Jews to identify themselves in such a way that would permanently separate them from the rest of the German population. The document is signed at the conclusion in black ink by an unknown official. WITH: Typed D.S., 1p. 4to., Karlsruhe, Jan. 5, 1939, again to Siegfried Simon, informing him that a relative named Wolfgang Simon has been allowed to emigrate to the United States, and can bring with him a portion of his possessions, after paying a 500-mark fee to a Berlin bank. It is also signed at the conclusion by an unknown official in black pencil. Both show minor folds, with the larger document showing file holes and paper loss from a staple at the left edge, else very good. Yad Vashem's Central Database of Shoah Victims lists several individuals named Siegfried Simon, although none are identified as residing in Rastatt. All, however, are identified as having been murdered.
