Description:

(1886-1955) American airplane manufacturer of bombers, notably the B-10 and B-26 of World War II, as well as flying boats and clipper planes used in trans-Atlantic service. War-date T.L.S. on ‘The Glenn L. Martin Company' letterhead, 1p. 4to., Baltimore, Maryland, Dec. 7, 1943. In part: ‘...Naturally, we in the aircraft industry are quite proud of the production record achieved to date. However, next year we will be required to produce even more aircraft...by the United States Government. While I would like to tell you something of the striking power and other features of our planes, I cannot do so due to censorship restrictions...I can say this – we are in production on three types of planes at the present time; namely, the Martin B-26 ‘Marauder', the PBM-3 ‘Mariner', and the Model 187 ‘Baltimore'...it is going to be an era in which aircraft will play an even more dominant art than it has in the past...'.
