Description:

Inscribed signed book "Jacqueline Bopuvier Kennedy", by Mary Van Rensselaer Thayer [New York: Doubleday & Co.] first edition. 128 pp. large 8vo., illustrated. Boldly inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf to White House Chief Usher J. B. West, a favorite of the First Lady: "To J. B. West the most gorgeous jaded dandy (18th, 19th or 20th Century) I have ever known. With admiration for his encyclopedia mind and funny bone humor...". Mary Van Rensselaer Thayer was a friend of Janet Auchincloss' friend and a former editor of the Washington Post. She was chosen as Jackie's authorized biographer with the hope that her work would satiate the public's demand for details on the famous widow's life. Thayer was given exclusive access to Mrs. Kennedy's voluminous scrapbooks, photo albums, and letters, as well as access to the future First Lady herself. And though it was Thayer's name that appeared on the book's jacket, Jackie was closely involved in its production and the final product heavily bore her imprimatur. SOLD WITH: a second Thayer book inscribed to West and signed twice: "Jacqueline Kennedy The White House Years" [Boston: Little, Brown & Co.], 1970. First edition, 362pp. 8vo., inscribed on the title page thanking West for his contribution to: ""...this history of an era..."". Two pieces.
