Description:

427A. NATHAN LEOPOLD (1904 - 1971) American criminal who, with Richard Loeb, was convicted in the thrill-killing of a 14 year old. Saved from the chair by Clarence Darrow's brilliant defense. Fine content T.L.S. "Nate" on his personal letterhead, 1p. 8vo., [Santurce, Puerto Rico], Apr. 14, 1968 to celebrated New York Post writer Leonard Lyons who penned the widely-read column "The Lyons Den". Lyons had apparently forwarded a news story to Leopold, who responds: "...While I must admit that no mention of me is very pleasant, and especially one in which the fact that I am a murderer makes the point of the story, as in this case, I find it very difficult to say no to you on anything. So by all means go ahead and use the story..." Leopold also includes a copy of a letter he has sent to Lyons' son, an anti-death penalty advocate, thanking him for relevant material on the subject, sending a donation for his efforts, and jokingly offering to adopt the boy! Very good. $150-200
