1708. PAUL ROBESON (1898-1976) American actor and singer. The son of a former slave, Robeson excelled on Broadway in such productions as Emperor Jones, Porgy, and Othello. Bold pencil signature on the cover of a program for the Country Playhouse of Westport's 1940 production of The Emperor Jones, in which Robeson had the leading role. Lightly foxed, otherwise very good. Sold with a vintage 78 record entitled "Ballad for Americans", with Robeson on the bass. Two pieces, very good. $100-150
