SARAH BERNHARDT WITH RARE ORIGINAL NADARPHOTOGRAPH
(1844 - 1923) French stage actress known for her remarkable voice, emotional acting, and controversial private life. A.L.S., 2pp., oblong 8vo., [Paris], ca. 1872, in French largely untranslated. Bernhardt's letter begins by exclaiming: "...It is always a joy...", and thanking her correspondent for the remembrance. Matted with superb original cabinet photograph by Nadar, the pseudonym of French photographer and illustrator Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, bearing his backstamp and showing Bernhardt in costume as a pierrot, wearing a billowy, lace-lined outfit and hat from 1878. Presented in double glass with both sides of each piece visible, with ivory mat and burgundy accents, set into a gilt frame. Fine condition.
