Large grouping of approx. 140 photographs, most around 4" x 3" b/w, of which 64 depicting naval subjects of the World War II era, dating roughly from 1930-1950. These primarily include ships of the Royal Navy, most notably as the aircraft carriers HMS ILLUSTRIOUS and HMS THESEUS as well as other destroyers, battleships and transports, sailors in various poses and settings, port scenes, damaged ships, naval aircraft, failed aircraft landings, line-crossing ceremonies, and more. Notable series include five views of a 1945 kamikaze attack on the Illustrious, as well as six views taken from that ship's aircraft during the bombing of the Vichy French-held port of Diego Suarez in Madagascar. The balance of the images consists of peacetime views of various African and Pacific ports. Two framed photos are also present. each 5 3/4" x 8" b/w, one showing an American "four stacker" destroyer, and the second an aerial view of the Illustrious with a Swordfish torpedo bomber overhead. All are in very good condition. Should be seen.
