Description:

A FORMER SLAVE SELLS A SLAVE! Interesting, rare and lengthy early slave sale manuscript D.S. 4pp. legal folio, Santa Magdalena de Supe, Peru, May 22, 1693, in Spanish, outlining that Capt. Diego Lazo de la Vega, Justice head in the city of Chancay, gives powers to Pascual de Rivas, a free slave and owner of a ship in the seas of Peru, to sell a slave named Adrian Cordero. Cordero is a mixed race slave from Puerto Rico of about 28 years old, bought from Felipe Gonzales, a resident in the city of Kings (Lima), on Dec. 28, 1692. It is averred that he is free to be sold, without vices or liens against him. A most ironic piece. Numerous mouse holes throughout, rough bottom margin, yet still very good overall.
